Sherwood Truck and Van, part of the largest IVECO dealer group in the UK, is sponsoring a rising star in the Notts County women’s football team.

It has agreed to support Abbie Staples, a 16-year-old who plays in the team’s development side for the forthcoming season.

Abbie, who is the daughter of Sherwood’s sales support manager Gary Staples, has played for the newly promoted EMWFL Division One North team since it launched in 2018.

The Hall Park Academy student, who has just completed her GCSEs, first started playing football at the age of 12 and played for two different local teams, Nuthall and Sandiacre, before trialling at Notts County.

She said: “We’re a new, small team that relies on the support of sponsors, so I’m very grateful that Sherwood Truck and Van has agreed to sponsor me for the next season. It makes all the difference to teams such as ours.”

Rob Spittle MD of Sherwood Truck and Van, said: “As a company with a strong sense of corporate and social responsibility, we were only too pleased to support Abbie for the next football season and we wish her and Notts County Women every success.”

The club is an affiliate of the men’s football club Notts County FC.
