OCADO GROUP LEADING THE WAY
‘We chose to run CNG trucks as we were keen to explore how we could reduce our environmental impact through our fleet operations. With the launch of the Stralis NP and an improvement in the models being offered by other manufacturers, natural gas as a fuel had become viable for us to use within our operation. The only decision we had to make at that point was whether we went CNG or LNG, initially we thought we needed the range of LNG, however on closer examination of our route analysis and the prospect of new public access infrastructure on the way, we realised CNG was sufficient, and a better refuelling experience for our drivers.
With the TCO benefit due to the fuel duty differential it made perfect sense to make the switch from diesel to CNG, it was, and right now still is the only viable alternative to diesel for a distance truck operation, we are making the switch now to natural gas, using biomethane and see this as the right solution for at least the next 10 to 15 years. Improving our environmental impact and reducing our operating costs too! What’s not to like?’
